Two classifications in one week: organize the hours

Keep one worker’s hours separated by project, day and work classification before preparing certified payroll. This fictional example shows the record trail, without calculating wages or completing a payroll.

Fictional records · no personal data

Project P-01 · week ending October 25, 2026

Worker entry number 1 performs work recorded in two classifications on one fictional project. A and B are teaching placeholders: use the actual classification names from the incorporated determination for real records, after confirming the work performed.

Reconciliation: Tuesday is 6 + 2 = 8 hours, not 8 hours in each classification. The weekly classification totals are 18 + 22 = 40 project hours. Keep any hours on other projects separately; this example does not determine straight time, overtime, pay or compliance.

Carry the record trail into WH-347

  1. Project and week: retain the project/contract reference, location and payroll week. Keep the determination and revision identified in the contract with the working file.
  2. Column 1A: DOL instructs that a worker reported in multiple classifications uses a separate line for each classification and the same worker entry number on those lines. In this example, both use 1; the second classification is not a second worker.
  3. Column 3: use the classification for the actual work performed from the incorporated determination. A and B are not real classifications. Contact the contracting agency if the needed classification is absent.
  4. Columns 4 and 5: transfer the daily hours and totals to the appropriate classification line, retaining the required straight-time and overtime distinctions from the underlying records. The table above only checks that hours have not been duplicated or lost.
